Resident parking permits (Bewohnerparkausweis)
Large parts of inner Munich are parking licence areas (Parklizenzgebiete, part of the city's Parkraummanagement). There, residents without a private parking space can get a permit to park in their area. address_report tells you whether an address lies in such an area and which one; the district pages list them (e.g. Stadtbezirk 05: Au-Haidhausen).
Who can apply
- You are registered with your residence in the licence area (see Registering your address (Wohnsitz anmelden)).
- You have a vehicle registered to you, or one you demonstrably use permanently (for company or carsharing cars, with proof).
- You have no private parking space.
- Trailers and vehicles built mainly for commercial use cannot be entered; foreign plates normally not either.
One permit per resident, with up to three vehicles entered.
How to apply and what it costs
- Fastest: the online application, uploading the vehicle registration (part I) and, if needed, proof of use.
- Online applications submitted before 11:00 can be processed the same day; a printed confirmation in the car is tolerated for up to a week.
- Fees per the city's service article: 30 euros for 12 months, 60 euros for 24 months. Renewal: you get a reminder about six weeks before expiry and simply pay.
- Hardship exceptions exist, e.g. regular care of a relative in the area, night shifts when public transport does not run, frequent hospital treatment.
